Problems with 3d surround vision with 3 or 4 GTX 580s

For over a calendar year I have been using 4 EVGA water-cooled GTX 580’s in a Quad SLI configuration with a single Acer GD235HZ 3d monitor no issues in regards to 3d. Just a week ago I decided it get a 3x monitor stand and buy two more GD235HZ 3d monitors and run 3d surround vision. Yesterday I worked on this for 8 hours and did not get it working correctly. I started by plugging the monitors into boards 1, 2, and 3 in the second DVI slot. After some trial and error I discovered in GTX 580 Quad configuration the monitors must go into slots 1, 2, and 4 in the second DVI slot. This too also lead to some frustration as 2d surround worked great before a reboot after a reboot one monitor usually the last one on card 4 would wig-out with random vertical lines going through it. To fix this I would just switch back to SLI and back to 3d surround and it would be good until the next reboot. That was for 2d operation, in 3d mode one monitor would always go nuts usually the last one. It would page in and out my desktop on the last monitor in 3d mode. I thought at this point I need to swap monitor and cable. I did and it always followed the card port not monitor or cable. I did some more reading on this and it looks like Quad GTX580 is not support in 3d surround. I then just wanted to see this work so I replaced the Quad SLI Bridge with a Tri-SLI bridge. I am still getting the exact same results but this time it is on card three not card four. Ok now I think it is a driver so I downgrade from 285.62 to 280.26 and the wig out problems went away both in 2d and 3d but now the glasses the left eye stays dark solid. Does anybody out there have and run 3d surround vision with 3 or 4 GTX 580s and have similar issues?

Sorry to hear of your frustrations...many of us here understand. While I run 3 580s in 2d surround (3d gives me headaches), from looking around, I cannot find any info on quad sli with 4 single chip cards running 3d surround. I know that people have used 2 x 590's for quad sli in 3d surround which is supported. From this page, it appears you are correct that 580's are not supported for 3d surround in quad configurations: http://www.nvidia.com/obj...stem-requirements.html

Thanks for the response Johnny. I also have tried my configuration in 3way SLI with exact same results. I have swapped the GTX580 position and have changed the monitor’s position and have replaced the dual-dvi cables with known working ones. I have even tried even beta and legacy 3d surround drivers. Unfortunately all results are the same whatever card monitor cable combination that ends up at position 3 of 3 does not work or I get all monitors to work and the 3D glasses the left side stays dark. I am at a total loss for a working solution.

From reports you only get an extra 3-9 percent gain (not even in all games) going from 3-4 cards. To be honest, I would stick with tri-sli unless you are benching. Good luck my friend:)

The key factors... - Tri-SLI.
- Making sure your shutter glasses are charged...you can ever try them with the usb cable connected to make sure.
- Be within line of sight of the emitter.
- Dual-Link DVI cables are a requirement.

Brad, After reading about supported configurations I am now using tri-sli and still I am having the same results as I did in quad sli. Glasses are charged they go on a changer every night. Also I did tried them plugged in and same results. Again I don’t think it is the monitors and or glasses I can make them all work individually fine the only issue is when I go tri-sli. We current or beta drivers the third monitor goes flaky flashing in an out the desktop. If I use legacy or older drivers the monitors works but the glasses do not work correctly the left lens stays hard black.

I don't happen to have my 3DVS setup on my NVIDIA rig at the moment. I'll try and get that setup this weekend though. I'll see what drivers work on mine.

I have 3d surround now working in both quad and tri SLI. I do have to say although I am very happy (elated) with 3d surround, the reason it did not work I am more than a little bit upset with. It did not work because I had cards in slots 2, 4, and 6 which comprised of a high-end server protocol offload NIC, a Sound Blaster HD card, and a high-end 11th gen server RAID card. I am not even all that upset about removing these cards in lieu of the 3d surround. A X58 only has so much bandwidth even with the NF200 chips. What I am absolutely furious about is I ruled this possibility out early in my troubleshooting by disabling the PCIe slots 2, 4, and 6 via the jumper pin options on the mother board. This is one of the key reasons I went with this quad SLI motherboard over the other two competitors as it is quite difficult to remove cards in the middle of SLI water bridges. This disabling the PCIe slot via jumper pin on the motherboard is just a “placebo extra strength effect” as it merely make this card in the slot not work but it does not free up any of the resources it takes. After I figured this out I testing it again while running GPU-Z and saw even with slots 2, 4, and or 6 disabled. The upper parent slots of 1, 3, and 5 went to 8 lanes as if the lower slot was not disabled and was active. With that said I got to say OMG I can’t believe I waited this long for 3d surround it is breathtaking. Skyrim is my game of choice right now and it looks awesome I just have to figured out how to fix the menus.

Yep, it's pretty cool. I just don't like the hit to contrast with it and the eye strain. But other than that it's a major upgrade in gaming.

Wow I think Nvidia needs to advertise the 3d surround more it is really unbelievable. Although I have used a single version 3d monitor for over a year now the 3panel 3d version is totally out of this world. I felt like I was actually in Skyrim. Only thing I have to worry about now is the public utility electric company. Before with 4 water cooled GTX 580’s working on a single 3d monitor I was using them all around 70% load at 47C and keeping a solid 60fps with vsinc and Ultra settings. Now with 4 water cooled GTX 580’s working on three 3d monitors they are all around 99% load at 53C and ranging from 45fps to 60fps with vsinc and Ultra settings. I did found a hack to make the menus work correctly in Skyrim. To me this was well worth the time an effort to figure this out and thank you Brad and Johnny for your helpful comments.

WSGF has a couple of mods for Skyrim and triple screen. I'm guessing you're using one of the two though.
