I am thinking of adding a dedicated Physx card... Tuesday, January 31, 2012 6:50 PM (permalink)
Hi Everyone!  I need a little guidance from the pros here!  I am thinking of adding a dedicated Physx card to my rig.  I currently have (3) GTX580 HC2's in Tri-SLI mode.  They work great and no issues.  I mostly play @ 6020x1200 with all settings maxed on these games:  Crysis WARS, Crysis 2, Black Ops, Skyrim and Flight Simulator X.  So my questions are:  Should I go dedicated Physx? If so what Card would be best?  Should I just go QUAD SLI?  Should I just stay with what I have?  would doing either make an vusially noticable improvement in my FPS?  Also if you look at the photo I attached, a problem I think I'll have is the botton 90dg fitting is probably in the way of the 4th card location.  So would I have to add the 4th card into my water cooling loop?  Thanks in advance!

Just stay with what you have. I mean, do you have issues with PhysX games? Do you even play any PhysX games?
SLI scaling drops off hard on the 4th GPU and is not really noticeable in gaming. Benchmarking on the other hand it is good.

From looking at the nVidia Game list that uses Physx, I guess NO I do not play Physx games.  So I'll stay as is, that's alright by me!  Thanks for the input.

Not a problem. It's common for people to think they need a PhysX card even though only a hand full of them use them.

if you want to add a PhysX card, at least use it for Folding@home when you play games that don't support physX,

Other then that, its not worth it.

back then I use to run a GTX 260 + GTS 250 for PhysX and thats what I did.

I'll say if u plan on playing batman either one or mafia 2, metro etc.. then U can always use one of the cards u already have  and use it for Physx just remember to change ur tri sli bridge to two way sli this way u save some cash and u do get an increase in fr in games that use Physx I know this cuz well just look at my hardware

You don't have to do that. You can run TRI SLI and dedicate your 3rd GPU to PhysX and you don't need to change the bridge.

Yea i can only imagine the hassle it be to the gamer if they had to swap thier SLI bridge for PhysX based games

PhysX engine will add, but for gtx580 serie, you need al least minimum gtx280 gtx285 or higher to get improvement
