GTX 275 , 3D TV Saturday, January 28, 2012 7:01 PM (permalink)
I have a 3D TV 240 HZ (passive stereoscopic) , the 3D works great with things like Xbox 360/ blue ray.

BUT

I have been having problems on my desktop using the 3D function with my TV.

It says some mumbo jumbo about "HDMI 1.4" and bla bla bla and it messes around with resolution etc... / can't get it to work properly/ and if it does work it works glitchy as hell.

Are the GTX 275's in SLI capable of 1080p Stereo 3D over HDMI?

Yes GTX 275's support 3D at 1080p but Nvidia does not officially support passive 3D HDTV's so not sure how well it would work. Here is a list of compatible displays...

I got 1080p working at like 24hz but ocasionally the screen will fill up with colored pixelization/that seems to scan/cycle through the screens image.

      Only does this with PC.
1280 x 720 @ 59.9 hz Looks sick and works good but has same random colorization/scanning happening every 30 sec or so.

Bad drivers maybe? using beta drivers.

I don't really care much for it, just wanted to toy around with 3d on my PC and see if I could get it working...

So far best resolution is 1280 x 720 @ 60hz/59hz looks best/plays at best frame rate.... 1080p @ 24hz looks better but bad tearing when moving/playing games and junk.

So far Xbox 360 does better job @ 3d than my GTX 275 does XD...

gona try a few diff drivers tomorrow , might be the wire im using also i mean the HDMI wire im using is cheapo but it worked for Xbox 3d so...

Update: Warcraft 3 runs fine in stereo 3d, @ 1280 720 , no lag nothing.... no **** ups at all.

Battlefield 3, and Sc2 on the other hand are a no go.... Bf3 WORKS in 3d, but every 20 - 30 sec the screen goes through what looks like a re-sync... (colors and ****)

I think its because its running @ 59.8 hz instead of 60hz solid.... not sure though.... gona try new drivers.

Starcraft 2 also works well @ 1280 x 720 even though I feel like I could go crosseyed playing it XD the 3d In that game "looks good" but when **** starts moving around your eyes tend to wander around out of focus it feels like....might just be too intensive for cards.

So only thing seems to have problem with is Battlefield 3 ... o well. . . . I think its cause of the Hz in game, if I put Sc2 on anything but 60 it does same ****.

        -----
        TLDR
So pretty much it just seems that BF3 sucks with 3D for me because it won't let me pick "60hz" exactly, and it keep defaulting to 58~59hz which throws the entire thing off.

Newer Nvidia drivers update the ratings on the 3D quality in games since some are better than others. You'll this in the release notes in addition to updated performance and SLI profiles. If you to Nvidia's site they have a page that shows the 3D quality for each game that supports it. Another problem is that 3D Vision requires a true 120hz display while most HDTV's use processing to smooth the picture and make it look like 120hz when it's actually still a 60hz display.

The Nvidia 3D vision kit uses active shutter glasses so this could part of why you're experiencing problems playing it on your passive 3D HDTV. I realize you're using your own glasses made for that TV but i'm guessing there could be something different about how it's displayed (the signal sent to the TV) and your TV is trying to compensate by adjusting the picture. I dont this for certain, just a guess, but like I said before most HDTV's are not officially supported.

AMD has their own 3D technology called HD3D that has a wider range of support for HDTV's but some reviewers have said that the quality is not quite as good as Nvidia's in some games. This is subjective of course.

OK I got it to work but it cost me.

            -Sli has to be disabled
-Physx needs to either be on 2nd card or CPU

I think its a problem with
            Stereo 3D + Sli + Physx + passive + 59hz

If I set it to a single GTX 275 + Physx on CPU or 2nd GPU SLI DISABLED, and 3D 59HZ (even though some drivers let me chose 60hz/new drivers only let me pick 59) and I find forcing VSync works.

I think im gona upgrade to a single 7970 anyway or... the new GTX 780 if it doesn't cost 2 zillion Zimbabwe dollars when it comes out.

DX9 Games seem to usually work out of the box, its just DX 10 games that act up.

Sc2 worked (sorta) but there was a lot of cross talk when FPS would fluctuate (I think its cause of SLI) The 275s just aren't staying sync'd up... MAYBE if i play with OC clock settings i might be able to resolve it... but meh/ who cares at this point... the cards are old.

Make sure your fps never drop below 60, otherwise you will not have good 3D.  That is a major downside to using 3D, unless you have an insane build, you will have to sacrifice settings to get high enough fps to make it work well.
