What would be YOUR affordable gaming rig (1k budget) Wednesday, January 25, 2012 3:19 PM (permalink)
I know i have made a similar thread lately but a different fella wants an affordable gaming rig. This was my rough my build based on components i've been reading up on lately.

i5-2500k $230
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 $160
EVGA geforce 560 ti FPB $250
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 $100
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 $50
Western Digital Caviar Black WD7502AAEX 750GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" $140
Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid $65
Windows 7 OEM - $110

Total(including shipping) = $1200

It comes up $200 over the budget. He'd rather have his build less than $1000 (lil over doesn't hurt too much).

The games he currently plays are League of Legends and Starcraft 2. But he plays Call of Duty of consoles and might want to try shooters such as BF3 on his rig. But he's not a hardcore gamer per say. So i was thinking an AMD build might be a good option for him? I heard the FM1 chipsets have REALLY good integrated graphics which we could try for his not-so-demanding games such as LoL and SC2 then get a GPU whenever he feels like it. Also, it is my understanding AMD have some really interesting options for affordable gaming rig?

If any of you would be interesting in sharing your ideas over this, it would be greatly appreciated. I have very little knowledge of AMD, as you can see.

I havn't really added up the cost of my  rig (my signature) that i'm trying to build. but it's based on a AMD right. you can just copy and paste everything in Newegg or Tiger Direct ( tiger direct have the CPU)

Same components (except eVGA 560 Ti SC 01G-P3-1567-KR), I come up with $1,066.95.

=/ still not to bad, I did change the motherboard like 30minutes ago. I realized I haven't did that since I'm going with the Sabertooth which supports the new FM1 CPUS Nahtak, and it's 184.99 instead of the 219.99 the crosshair V formula was.

@OP...Do you have a Microcenter nearby? If so, you could get the 2500K for 179.99 +tax and drop down to a 320 or 500 gig caviar black and save close to a hundred or so...

I don't think we have any of those in Canada.
If the build ended ended up at $1066, that'd be great. But add shipping and windows 7 and i'm only shaving off about 50 bucks (there is also a 20 inmail rebate i didn't factor in).

You did not mention where you were located, or where you were buying from, so I chose some items locally where I live, and a couple others from the Internet.

Regarding the copy of Windows, it is against the TOS to discuss that sort of thing, you might want to edit your post.

If he's only playing LoL and SC2 you could skimp on the GPu for now and get a decent one later.

Looks good, but i would rather spend 7 extra bucks on a Asus motherboard and get a better color scheme/looks, more audio flexebility and EFI bios.

Pretty good! It's too bad that the HDD is eating up a big portion of your budget. When I built my rig, a WD Blue 1 TB drive only cost $60 CAD!

My rig (excluding the SSD) cost me about $1000 CAD (including 13% tax)

I'm confused. The GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 only has 2 fans plug ins? It seems i can't plug the back fan and one of the front fan.

How do i deal with this?

Looks like you have 4 fan connectors.

Even so just use a 4pin molex adapter if need be..
