Strange E-Leet Temps with Z68 Saturday, December 17, 2011 8:37 PM (permalink)
I bought my first non-EVGA board (sorry, EVGA), an Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3.

Popped in an i7-2600k, cursed the high heavens that I couldn't get my Mugen 2 to fit (even with what I thought was the correct conversion kit), popped in the ram and my two new EVGA 570 SCs.

Here's where things go weird.  Temps on the CPU are high (to be expected with a stock cooler), but I start getting some weird readings.

In the BIOS, CPU temp is reading around 38-40*C.  In E-Leet, it's reading 60*C (with cores 55-60*C), at stock.  So I decide to just do some minor gaming to see what the stock cooler will do, and everything just went crazy.  After about an hour of gaming, I get a beep, telling me that my vCore has jumped to over 1.5v, and that my CPUTIN and SYSTIN are now over 123*C.

I quickly exit the game and check E-Leet.  Cores still around 55-60*C, SYSTIN and CPUTIN reading over 123*C, even minutes after closing out the games.  AUXTIN is only reading about 50*C.  Vcore is nowhere near what I was being told, as it's hovering around 1.24-1.28v.

I do a quick restart and check temps in the BIOS....and CPU is reading the same as before, 38-40*C, Motherboard reading around 30*C.  Lower voltage readings, too.

What the hell is going on?  I don't recall CPUTIN/SYSTIN/AUXTIN readings in E-Leet with my old X58 Tri-SLI board.  Are these to be trusted?  I imagine my rig would have automatically shut down if the temps were really getting that high.

bios had/has a bug where the cpu temp reads very high. update to the latest version of eleet and see what it says. TBH i use real temp though.

      That's what I'm thinking.

I flashed the latest bios from Asus, and downloaded the newest e-leet (1.09.9, I think).

Got the weird temps with that.  I'll get RealTemp and see what it says.

just checked my eleet and real temp, never noticed, but there about a 2 degree difference with eleet being higher, but nothing crazy.

Ok, but then why would CPUTIN and SYSTIN read over 123*C?

That's got to be a bug, right?  Even with updated ELeet and BIOS.

Running a test with RealTemp.  Temps seem fine, but AUXTIN just hit 127*C in E-Leet.

EDIT: and then almost immediately dropped to 54.5*C

Just a hunch, but I uninstalled the all of the AI Suite that came with the Asus board.

I have a sneaking suspicion that some of the values that showed up in E-Leet and the Asus monitoring software was double-counting.

Took a chance and ran the cooldown test with RealTemp, while also having ELeet running.  Didn't see SYSTIN/CPUTIN/AUXTIN make any wild jumps.

So long as the core temps and voltages are ok, shouldn't be anything to worry about, right?

Yeah, I would assume it's the AI Suite monitoring stuff causing problems....  For me, running e-leet and RealTemp together cause no problems, but either running with monitoring software with AI Suite and my temps are crazy in e-leet and RealTemp....

The AI monitoring suite sometimes causes a host of issues with other software. The i7-2600k system I setup for a client had issues similar to this until we removed the AI suite software. It's working as expected now but every time he tries to update it for OS/CPU tweaking it misreads the temperatures and some of the overclock settings. Perhaps some day they'll get it fixed. I'm not expecting much though.
