Hi EVGA Team,
First off thanks for the great products you have made and for hosting this great forum for us, greatful users and sometime slightly ungreatful :-)
here on the forum
Anyway, I have just rebuild my SR-2, and I had not updated my bios since A50, as things seemed to work just fine. I have to raid controllers in my system (IBM M1015/LSI-9240-8i), which seems to just fit and the bios would load the onboard SATA-II controller in the order that suited my setup, namely as my boot disk array, then followed by my two RAID controllers. Now there isnt enough Option Rom to fit their respective bios's but I can live with that as they also offer a way into the bios's via the OS.
Now, I am in the midst of my rebuild/clean-up and what the heck, i'll update to the latest BIOS, despite the various warnings and applause here. Thinking well, the latest must be the best with all the fixes in it, and that may very well be true for the average Joe, but this board isn't for the average user. (I am probably shooting myself in the foot here, because, i have definately lost many of my skills & tricks in this area.)
So I installed the latest A56 BIOS (April 2012), but low and behold, when I go on to boot after having gone in and reset & optimised the settings (without O/C). My system won't boot past my RAID controllers, and this is after disabing almost everything.
I remove my raid controllers, I should really use those little pins on the right hand side of the board to disable and not remove my devices.....when do I learn :-)
I reboot without the raid controllers and yes, it runs smoothly... but i am a bit short of storage now, as i have no raid arrays!
I flicked the switch on the Bios selector and landed on A43 which, happily accepted my two RAID controllers and booted with my SATA-II first as I had wanted. Now I am working my way back from A56, to the Latest BIOS that will let me boot with the devices that I have intented for my system, currently I am at A50....the jury is still out atm but I am hoping it will do.
So the question here is, would there be any chance that select the order of which things will boot in? in future bios updates...this could also be a handy feature for future boards. Also with the many PCIe slots we have available would it not be reasonable to assume that the option ROM should have been twice the size of a normal board, or provisions should have been made available for expansions???
Apart from that I think the SR-2 is just a marvellous board, just fantastic
....not so warm on the SR-X though!
Please keep updating the bios's for the SR-2, and keep thinking outside the box!!
