I5 750 Temps?

I'm having a hard time figuring out if there is a problem with my CPU or what.
I've loaded bios defaults. Changed nothing .... Temps in windows @ Idle 34, 30, 34, 30 - Stressed with Prime95 51, 49, 49, 51

If then go into my bios and start with setting my Ram to its default settings, 9-9-9-27 @ 2000mhz brings my CPU to a slight over clock of 3.0ghz
My Idle temps immediately go up to 45, 43, 44, 43 (around there, sometimes a bit higher) Stressed with Prime95 the temps shoot up nearing the 70's

Im running I5 750, EVGA P55 SLI, and 4 GB of GSkill Ripjaws. Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme Cooler.

Normal for stock cooling, seem's high for an Ultra 120.

At default the i5 will overclock and underclock itself automatically along with managing its own voltage. At idle its voltage and multiplier will be minimum and you'll have a cool processor. When the i5 is hit with a load it'll "ramp up" and raise vcore.

When you set you ram to "spec" your CPU's base clock and multipliers were probably set to stationary levels, so your CPU would no longer O.C. and U.C. automatically. Your voltage would also be constantly running at whats required for 3.0Ghz. This is why your idle temps were raised.

If you havent already, you can run CPU-Z to monitor voltage, multipliers, speeds in real time while running Prime95. It may help you determine what else may be going on.

For reference I'm running 4.0 ghz tonight on stock cooling @ 1.35v and idle temps of 44c.

I'm running CPU with overstock ~3.8 GHz settings and the i5's temperature depends on cooler + case. Recently i bought noctua se 1156 cooler and it lowered temperature to ~27-28 C

Check the base of your TRUE, this cooler has been known to have quite the curvature on it's base, causing poor contact with the CPU. Do a quick level check with a razer blade to see if it is flat or not.

Ok, I'll do this tonight when I get home.... if its not flat what do I do ? ....... can't say I have ever had to deal with a Heatsink that's not flat before.

I'm running 4.0ghz @ a max of 69*c with Xigmatek dark knight. I'd check the cooler as said above, what kind of thermal paste you use?

hell i wonder if i just a faulty 150, cuz i had a h50 cooler and idle would be pushing high 40's and low 50's and i reset everything, put the stock cooler with stock voltages and my 750 is running idle at 56C

Are the temps holding at 70 or is it slowly rising??!! I good way to tell if you've installed the cooler properly is that the temp stays consistant between a range and not go out of it.  Example, like my zaleman stays between 65-72 after 10 hours of prime.
