It's a rear projection display with a really huge back panel. Next look at the Fresnel lens issues where the blend areas should be on the screen area itself. You can clearly see the border areas between the DLP projection guns where they're butting. Throw in $6500 price tag and it turns into a totally dysfunctional curiosity for those that don't look at it too closely. That display has never been the answer to anything.

2880x900 = FAIL
Screen back case size = FAIL
Fresnel lens issues and projector butting = FAIL
$6500 = FAIL
Hoping that you'd miss these things and buy it anyways = FAIL

Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (_Nite_)

moose517

i say we need 21:9 format monitors already hehe. even wider so that movie experience will be freaking awesome! and you could almost do gaming without needing monitors in surround. philips has a 21:9 2560x1080 screen out there, would love to get my hands on one, just i'm sure PC support for that particular res would be crap.

NEC has one thats 2880x900, biggest single screen surround monitor that I know of

http://www.engadget.com/p...dwx-panoramic-monitor/

Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (moose517)

i say we need 21:9 format monitors already hehe. even wider so that movie experience will be freaking awesome! and you could almost do gaming without needing monitors in surround. philips has a 21:9 2560x1080 screen out there, would love to get my hands on one, just i'm sure PC support for that particular res would be crap.
Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (Brad_Hawthorne)

Mac_vista64

I wonder if current gpu's are limited to 2560x1600 - seems like you can have two 27-30" displays now - or that could be per dual-link DVI or Display Port? and need 1.5GB+ VRAM each to function.
GTX 690 w/ 4-6GB monster.

Since the NVIDIA 400-series and AMD 6000-series the GPU maximum pixel limits are 16k x 16k. The issue is not GPU processing limitations but rather port bandwidth limitation. Only DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 1.4a have the bandwidth to push the pixel counts this display has through a single cable.

This LCD seems to be two seamless LCDs within the same case. The two port requirement limits it's usefulness. This is pretty standard for 4kHD though to use multi-port to be able to push the pixel count. This is where AMD really shines compared to NVIDIA. NVIDIA Geforce only does 3x1 span mode while AMD does 2x1, 3x1, 4x1, 5x1, 2x2 and 3x2 span modes. 4kHD typically uses two or four ports input. That'll soon change with more wide spread DisplayPort 1.2 adoption though. You'll note the NVIDIA 600-series will have one DP 1.2 port standard on cards. This opens the plausibility of single port 4kHD ability now to everyone. I see no motivation for display manufacturers to push 4kHD to consumers though. They're still milking 1080p for all it's worth and 1600p is solidly price fixed at $1k+.
Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (Brad_Hawthorne)

ManBearPig

Brad_Hawthorne

Taking bets this uses four DVI inputs. Largely useless to NVIDIA users unless you're doing desktop only work. Any modern AMD GPU can use it to game with though using Eyefinity.
Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (starsmine)

2560x1600 is one ports limit. not the limit a gpu can output. What I really want to have is a standard for measuring ratios :P
Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (boylerya)

Mac_vista64

I wonder if current gpu's are limited to 2560x1600 - seems like you can have two 27-30" displays now - or that could be per dual-link DVI or Display Port? and need 1.5GB+ VRAM each to function.
GTX 690 w/ 4-6GB monster.

My guess is display port since that is the top of the line connection for the mainstream public. Another possibility is if they are using a connection that has not been released yet. Either way, my 1600p is more than enough let alone 2160p. Really only necessary for a display that is around 60".
Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (Mac_vista64)

I wonder if current gpu's are limited to 2560x1600 - seems like you can have two 27-30" displays now - or that could be per dual-link DVI or Display Port? and need 1.5GB+ VRAM each to function.
GTX 690 w/ 4-6GB monster.
Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (Bkatt)

 dat price.

Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (ManBearPig)

The picture shows the monitor being hooked up by 2 DisplayPorts. So it probably was 2 GPUs with one DisplayPort from each. That's my guess.
Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (_Nite_)

I'm curious what video card they used for dirt 3 to do 4096x2160 cause I though the max that all cards supported was 2560x1600
Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (ManBearPig)

Brad_Hawthorne

Taking bets this uses four DVI inputs. Its just better for work. Personally I wish the 16*10 standard would come back. I would prefer to spend 200 bucks on a monitor instead of 300 due to lack of supply due to lack of demand.
Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (_Nite_)

yea I prefer 16:9 as well, thats why I have 1920x1080 instead of 1920x1200, don't have to worry about black bars around movies and such

Others like 1200 for the extra space to work with on the desktop, all depends on the user.

anyway the actual purpose of monitor this big would be great for 3d animation work, photoshop work, video editing, etc or wants to play games at that resolution. It would definately be horrible for full screen movies though unless you don't mind watching it in a window just like you see in the preview image above, that resolution is like 4 x 1920x1080 screens in 1, so you have 3/4 extra space to work with.
Re:Eizo 4,096 x 2,160 LCD Monitor (Eru_JRRT)

I mean standard HD (16:9 I think) or what ever resolution movies are filmed in. 4:3 is to narrow of a view of course.

Maybe I'm just speaking from a frustrated consumer POV but I've got a 1920x1200 monitor (purchased about 2 years ago when I was relatively uninformed on tech) and am now stuck with some very annoying black bars above and below my screen when ever I watch youtube vids or other 1080 recordings.

Idk, to me it just seems weird that there is no standard width to height ratio.

That's off topic and not discussing your thread.
