At issue is I'm Premium on COX which my DOCSIS 2 modem is capping that. I doubt they'll give me anymore bandwidth just for using DOCSIS 3.

You would be surprised what happens going to a D3 modem.

What will be nice is when Cox updates to the 8 channel down stream and 4 channel upstream. Currently is 4 channel down and 1 channel up. Once they release this the total overall bandwidth is going to allow for 100/25 Mbps. Not too sure if other DOCSIS 3.0 modems will do this but the Cisco DPC3000 and DPC3010 do have the ability to do so.

I have a 30/5 package on D3 for $60 a month, it's pretty nice.

The ISP gives the D3 modem for free though (Time Warner) and there is no rental cost.

The reason you need a D3 modem even for speeds like this is because for the upload, they use 2 channels and D2 modems can only utilize 1 upload channel. So when I plug a D2 modem into my net connection I only get 30/3 instead of the 5 upload I get with a D3 modem.

I've been having issue from my isp (Cox) as of late. I used to get some fantastic speeds. Then last week I lost the connection to my modem that I fixed just by power cycling and now I can't get but but what is "advertised speeds".

Because of the symmetrical bandwidth and that they're pro-rating the bandwidth for-profit use. That symmetrical upload speed is important.

really wish i could use a docsis 3 modem but because i'm on a business account they have extra stuff they have to provision for. Otherwise i would have one by now haha.

My ISP told me they are increasing the internet speed and they will send a new Docsis 3 modem to go along with it... for free.

had my shady ISP try to tell me to get "higher" speed on my current plan I had to get a DOCSIS 3 modem, but the speed she told me was less than 30Mb/s >_>
That was part of her last ditch effort to convince me not to cancel them LOL.

SB6120 $75 at Amazon.
Mine was doing 60/4 until Comcast changed the channel bonding or something. Still smokin' (compared to DSL anyway) and I pay Comcast $77/month for this and digital cable. [edit] Including a high-def box, high-def DVR, and 3 DTAs.

Who is your ISP? If you shop around you can usually find it them for roughly half that price. It's definitely worth a consideration if your service supports it.

I'm personally going through fits trying to get my Steam account downloaded again onto a 3tb hd. If DOCSIS 3 will make that faster, all the better. Steam is currently calling out at 3.5MB/S.

Nice speeds, but seeing your game list, that can take a long time, and if they cap you holy smokes.

Never heard of COX capping but who knows. It's going to probably take all 3TB. I'm half way done and it's already at the 1.5TB mark.

Mother of all that is good.. Those are awesome speeds.. I hate living in Iowa sometimes.... We have ONE choice here.... $100.00 a month of 10MB/1MB is the fastest I can get... Well at least it's fiber to the home so my speeds never fluctuate.. Oh and no cap...
