Kind of just doing CPU stress testing with it at this point. Might as well put the electricity for it to good use... Having some stability issues but I think it's voltage related, as the motherboard defaulted to some low voltages for the cpu and ram. Will be tearing down a GTX 480 that I just picked up cheap, remove any dust under the shroud, sand the heatsink and apply some high-end thermal paste. Then I'll be seeing how much I can undervolt the 480 to try and tame the heat and power usage.

It's getting warm so I can't be heating the room too much but when winter comes, I will be setting it up in lieu of a space heater. I may go ahead and try to fold for the EVGA bucks anyways, since I am super conservative on utilities but one of my roommates is grossly wasteful. I might as well get my money's worth!
Re:New EVGA Folder Check-IN (TheWolf)

devnant

Hello, new folder here too. Some are possibly different but on my machine both the upper and lower slots run at 16X. No problem. I also like the separation of cards for cooling.

Unfortunately this is not one of those boards :( The lower slot, the black one, is only a 4x slot- so I wouldn't be able to utilize SLI and since this is my only PC, that's not really an option

Orange_1050

Welcome aboard Nephross^^

Thank you :)
Re:New EVGA Folder Check-IN (Viper97)

Zagen... yes. Depending on the motherboard design... I'll pull it out tomorrow and see if I can't clean it up a bit.
Regarding the airflow of the case. I have 2 140mm and 1 120mm fan in the front of the case blowing in fresh air, so overall the flow should be pretty decent.
The lower card is doing just fine in temps, so it's just the restricted flow for the top card that is a problem :)

I'm just gonna say thanks for all your input and kind helpfullness- It's a rare thing these day :)
Re:New EVGA Folder Check-IN (Xavier Zepherious)

if it's just the top card just try blowing it out first
second add some additional Airflow to the case
looking at your rig... only two visible fans... Im guessing it could be an issue too

the top card gets hotter because airflow is restricted by the other card

secondly if the air in the case is hot/warm - low flow - the air that it does get will be too hot to keep the card adequately cool

my 570 is two years old going on 3 and sits ant 60c when folding

my tri SLI 670 rig the GPUs also stays below 60c (even the top card) Love seeing them a 50c

as for the WC loop ..I here ya..
Im doing one myself this month replacing the h70 with a Koolance system

however Im not doing the GPU's in that rig yet
Im just putting in the rads(for a complete GPU and CPU cooling system) and heatsink for the CPU
Im going to swap out the three 670's to the second rig later and put two or three 780's or Titans Hydrocoppers in

then my 570 will go to my bro for his rig
Re:New EVGA Folder Check-IN (Nephross)

Zagen30

Nephross

Apparently my system would be able to tjurn out 59.000 point pr. day, but I doubt it would make it a full day. One of my graphic cards would melt first(Have them in SLI, but with stock aircoolers, the top one get's quite warn during long sessions) I guess this has highlighted a weakness in my current setup. Fixing it could become 'problematic' though interesting :)

How warm is "quite warm"? GPUs can run pretty hot without much fear of damage.

Have you changed the fan speeds at all? You can set that with EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner. I have my cards running at 70% fan speed constantly, and it keeps the temperatures several degrees C cooler than the default option of "adjust the fan speed up only if it's getting dangerously warm." It is somewhat loud, though.

Also make sure you remove the dust from all your components on a somewhat regular basis. I've seen notable temperature drops after a good cleaning coming after a few months of buildup.

When I say "quite warm" I actaully mean scorching hot :S The top card was running at around 90degress celcius with fans hitting the rev limiter off 100% at times.. (using precision to keep track of temps and fan speed ect. :) )

I might have to take it apart and see if the cooler isn't seated properly or something.

(What I really need to do, is gather up some money and do that watercooling loop I have been planning for the better part of a year )

@jinihammerer - I'll try that when I put them back to work tonight.

Re:New EVGA Folder Check-IN (jinihammerer)

Welcome Nephross. One thing not mentioned. take your cards out of SLI mode for folding/ sli does not help and can actually hinder folding.
Re:New EVGA Folder Check-IN (Zagen30)

Nephross

Apparently my system would be able to tjurn out 59.000 point pr. day, but I doubt it would make it a full day. I'm afraid I've done something very wrong...
Only been folding less than a week, I entered this page:

Welcome to your personal Folding@EVGA web page.
http://www.evga.com/folding/MyFolding.asp

Here I saw the request for 250K points button.
I don't know why, but I pushed this button (kinda what I'm like)
THEN I read the text.
I might be a bit quick pushing buttons, but I'm not dishonest, and I absolutely don't want to claim more than I have earned.
Now I may have claimed for points I haven't earned.
Anything I can do about this?

EDIT: I found some posts about this, now I got it ha ha.
Well, I had surpassed the 250K requirement by far.
Wow I'm jumpy lol

Re:New EVGA Folder Check-IN (Zagen30)

Xavier Zepherious

you can use your passkey with different folding names or teams...
the only issue that in each case - you will need to prime it for each name or team you switch too

You don't need to re-qualify if you change teams, only if you change usernames.
Re:New EVGA Folder Check-IN (Xavier Zepherious)

1, Username = folding name - not necessarily

all you have to do is contact rob or shane at EVGA if your folding name is different than your username
they will then work with you to either change your user name or allow your folding name to be different than your EVGA name

if it's early and you practically have no points under your folding name yet - you can also move to make it reasonably close to or the same as your username
losing a few thousand points won't make much of a difference once you folded awhile - it be a drop in the bucket

the only reason they want it the same is for verification purposes - for EVGA bucks... same name is easy for them
otherwise they have to check each profile to make certain
and it also protect people from using folding points from other members like -> johnz using mgoring's folding name
and use his folding points to earn EVGA buck

they want to know it's you and not some other person folding for EVGA

nowadays - auto verification - you don't need them to match - just need them to say ok we know it's you,,,will check to see it's not some other person that's been here awhile - and then they may Okay it

just look at how many people that could fold under .... Bill,Johnson
variations Bjohnson,Billjohnson,bJohnson1,bill_johnson,etc (possible 100's)

so they would have to allow some difference in usernames to folding names

any phonebook you could have 100's with the same name - so they would allow different names to differentiate

2, passkey - goes by EMail address
never changes unless you get a different email account

you can use your passkey with different folding names or teams...
the only issue that in each case - you will need to prime it for each name or team you switch too

further you can change you config at any time with the key
-best to input it as soon as you can so you get it primed sooner - no sense letting SMP WU's go by and not have them prime the key and wait longer to earn bonus points
