I run at 776/1552/1702 clocks and haven't seen a crash or high temps yet. I've also owned this card for some 3 years and still love its performance for a 239.00 card. Although the newer drivers seem to fail miserably when running 3dMark11, I suggest sticking to the 285.62 driver for best overclocking results.

i5 2500k@5ghz@1.42 vcore
Msi Z68a-GD-55 Military Class II board
Evga 470GTX@776/1552/1702 clocks@1.087 volts
Hyper 212 Aftercooler w/120mm fan
Corsair 650 TX Watt Psu
G-Skill Ripjaw 2x 4gb Ram(8gb)
Intel 120gb SSD 3.0
WD Cavair Black 1 tig HD
Antec 300 case with 1x 140mm and 5x120mm fans
Samsung Xl2370 1920x1080 native HD monitor

Re:Safe way to overclock EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (loveha)

No such thing as safe overclocking...
But, it should be able to do +50Mhz on the Core Clock with stock voltage, leave memory alone. Set up a custom Fan profile.
Re:Safe way to overclock EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (random_matt)

enkhrypthor

Well, basically is that what im looking for =) just a profile in order to play skyrim =)

what you advice?

just get another 470 for sli
Re:Safe way to overclock EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (enkhrypthor)

Well, basically is that what im looking for =) just a profile in order to play skyrim =)

what you advice?
Re:Safe way to overclock EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (TheNerd)

I didn't mean to come out as not to over clock I have over clocked in the past some cards died but some lasted for years you can over clock I would just start out slow adjust a little bit at a time search the forum and see what clocks are stable for others that had over clocked their 470's and try those. But I wouldn't keep it as a 24/7 over clock just creat a profile and use it only with the games that you need more power to play with.

Thats what I did with my AMD CPU I had a profile that I used only when I played certain games
Re:Safe way to overclock EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (enkhrypthor)

 Well,

I think i'll follow your advice and not overclock it just for a game =)

Instead, i'll go more to the beach.

Thanks!

Re:Safe way to overclock EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (TheNerd)

In my opinion their isn't a safe way to overclock any time you push a video card, CPU or any thing past it's default timings/limit you take the risk of the hardware crashing prematurely/limiting it's life span. And from what I have read several times that the 470 and 480's run hot at it's stock/default timings.

I really don't think you should need to swap out the stock cooler as long as you have a extra room and extra fans in your case like my case is the cool master half X and I run two 460's in sli and it has more then enough room and 6 fans so my hard ware stays cool my old case had 4 fans and was half the size and every thing ran hot with it.

But if you do plan on over clocking your card it would be wise to upgrade the cooler on the card thats what I would do if I was to over clock my cards just to be safe.
Safe way to overclock EVGA GeForce GTX 470 (enkhrypthor)

 Hi,

A few months ago, i purchased the EVGA GeForce GTX 470 SuperClocked+. I stil using the same cooler and im thinking about overclocking just because of Skyrim :)

Is there a way, that i could do a safe boost on performance without having to purchase a new cooler?
