Anyway, a Restore to yesterday before it started appears to have fixed it.

Weird nonetheless.

Check to see what you have running in device manager some programs will NOT let a system shut down, insted it waits for them to close, The Folding at home tracker is one such program , but you usualy recive a warning message, unlessyou have those turned off.

It is not sleeping, it is still running; all lights and fans, on-board POST Code LEDs are lit, etc.

Also, I use a custom Power Plan, where the PC is never allowed to sleep, the monitor only shuts off if it has been running on battery backup for ten minutes, and I have disabled hibernate.

The machine only began doing this yesterday, and I was able to re-create it at least three times.

Perhaps some Windows file corruption is the cause?

Make sure the properties of the Shutdown are set to Shut down and not sleep. Your options are ( Shut down, switch user , log off lock, restart, or sleep)

left click Orb Right click shut down, select properties.

I click 'Shut down' from the Start Menu, and the monitor shuts down, the video card fans slow down to default, but the PC continues to run?

Pressing the reset button on the chassis reboots the machine as expected.

This is with Windows 7 U x64 SP1, fully patched, sig rig.
