Sounds like plugging in a new drive took it over the edge. Hope it all works out for you.
X58 motherboard not recognizing hard drive (rupeman1)

The problem I all of a sudden had was that everything was working just fine on my 132BL-e758 SLI motherboard with 4 SATA drives and a SATA DVD. I plugged in another hard drive and things started going wrong. It didn't show the 4th drive or the one I just added. Saturday night I realized that system health check showed the temp on the chip set was high. Checked the chip set cooling fan and it was dead. I guess the main high capacity fan on the side of my tower case was keeping it just cool enough to run 4 drives. I figure the IOC10R I/O controller chip is wasted since it won't even load Windows to the SATA 0 drive now. Just ordered another board from CompUSA online for $149.99 after $40 rebate. I'll just transfer everything over to the new board and I should be good to go.
Until I discovered the problem I was trying everything I could find on this forum.
