The RTSS and OSD/Keyboard display functions are NOT needed if you properly test your cards.
Simply running the program normally in the background for monioring, fan control and clocking functions, is really all that is needed... and THAT portion of the programs runs extremely well and does NOT cause problems or issues when properly configured.
Re:Gtx 580 Classified Ultra SLI problem (chrisdglong)

maniacvvv

chrisdglong

maniacvvv

chrisdglong

Why is running the OSD in Precision and Afterburner such a big deal? I am paranoid that Precision will lock my fans at 40 like it has done in past versions after a log out and back in of Windows.

Its not on a perfectly running config
-BUT-
If you are having -any- issues when playing games, the OSD (and the RTSS server function that runs it) is the very first thing that should be shutdown for troubleshooting.

This is because the OSD/Keyboard display fuction is KNOWN to cause issues with some games because it uses the same "overlay" functions as some game engines, and the RTSS server has KNOWN bugs that sometimes cause it to "fail to shutdown", attempt to run more than one instance or encounter a conflict with either keyboard software or "other" monitoring software that uses the same sensors....

How do you shut down the OSD server? I keep clicking close, but it keeps automatically opening back up. I had a couple of things that I had done wrong on my computer. I had Precision X installed and msi afterburner installed as well (never ran both at the same time though... phew!) What we did was a fresh install of the 301.24 driver. Another big ''no no'' that I was doing was running Origin and Steam at the same time while playing games. I kept msi afterburner to start with windows everytime so now I can monitor my temps and gpu usage whenever I play a game! But he told me NOT to use on screen display! Check your temps and usage after you've played the game. We also did some slight changes in the manage 3d settings page. Bf3 runs buttery smooth so does Skyrim! I still have issues with Crysis 2 mainly when I put the dx 11 features on (texture flickering and low fps) but I'm done playing that game and I know it's the game's problem and not my hardware!
Hope that helps!! Do this and enjoy your 2 580's Classy Ultras!!
That's what I'm doing! :)

Re:Gtx 580 Classified Ultra SLI problem (randbfz)

Maniac, please report on the findings!

I also have Dual 580 Classified Ultra's in SLI and would like to prevent making any similar mistakes. Although, as the OP experienced, BF3 runs smoothly.
Re:Gtx 580 Classified Ultra SLI problem (reign02)

maniacvvv

Got the chance to meet the OP and dope out his config, boot startup and his Nvidia driver setup last night on EVGA's TS3.....

He should be setup correctly now, good to go

Was a pleasure to work with, and I very much enjoyed talking with him

So what did you exactly "dope" out in his config? You might want to post results and changes because there are other people (ME) who are having similar problems and instead of starting new threads I can just use this one..... So what was changed?
Re:Gtx 580 Classified Ultra SLI problem (solved) :) (mikaelfred)

I can't thank you enough maniac!! Corsair H70, H80, or H100 in a push/pull configuration should lower your temps drastically. Oh yeah, Crysis 2 is nothing but a console port with a high res texture pack, which is why Crytek made so many loyal fans angered with this release. Maybe try to pull a little more out of that 960, but other than that stick with the WHQL drivers and see what happens, everything looks to be pretty good though.
Re:Gtx 580 Classified Ultra SLI problem (mikaelfred)

I installed driver 285.62 this morning.
