I would definitely go with a z77 board and 3770k, less power/heat, higher clocks, faster clock/clock

You wouldn't see much power savings from an LGA2011 processor, but the new Ivy Bridge chips would drop your power usage down nicely. They're not only two process nodes below LGA1366 processors, but they're also still only four cores.

On the flip side, you'd have to pay more for a multiplier unlocked chip if you wish to overclock on Ivy Bridge. But the motherboard would cost less than an X79 board.

My other thought was that my 920 is a power hog compared to the new chips and runs quite hot so thats another reason i was looking at switching

depending on your board the PCI lanes speed may screw you over

last week i found out my board runs two cards in x16 x4 for some reason. tried settings bios, updating, nothing changed so it may be worth it to keep your PCI lanes until a mobo with a dedicated multiplexer chip comes out ( like the nf2000 )

your cpu will not bottleneck you anytime soon so i say wait and see how htings plan out in the coming months

i think its not worth chuccking out money for mobo+cpu if you have quad core near 4.0ghz

So i have I7 920 C0 stepping that wont over clock more than 3.8Ghz on an h100 , i was thinking of going to upgrading to a Ivy bridge 3570 or 3770 on a Asus z77 sabertooth board is it worth it, Thoughts!

P.s im only looking to do a mild over clock on the new one
