(007vsMagua)

I never played Crysis, but I did play Warhead and while it was an OK game, it was nothing to write home to mom about. I'm looking forward to picking up Crysis 2 when it goes on sale at Steam and I'll probably get around to playing Crysis 3 sometime in 2014. I really loved FarCry and I'm almost through with FC2, which I'm enjoying a lot. I spent two years in Southern Africa, and driving around in FC2 does bring back memories. I wish FC2 had predatory animals that one would have to be on the lookout for, and elephants and such, but I suppose you can only spend so much time and money creating a game. I'm really looking forward to FC3.
Re:Crysis 3 Now Available !!! (Arctic. Light)

Im tied hearing about console ports......am i the only one THAT DOSENT care if its ported from a console or not??? If a game looks amazing, is fun to play, and works...it could be ported from a toaster for all i care. I have not had any problems with EA bf3 works fine for me and i had fun playing it. I even talked to their support the other day, they were extremely helpful and solved my issue in less then 10 minutes. I also had alot of fun playing the second crysis. Also people complaining that you dont understand why developers focus on consoles more? ALOT MORE PEOPLE USE CONSOLES, OF COURSE THEY WILL FOCUS ON THEIR BIGGEST AUDIENCE. They made a high definition pack for crysis 2 for pc...and they released it when it was completely finished....I remember people complaining that bf3 switch from PC to console mid development....by the time they switched....most of the game was already made for PC......so the entire backbone was pretty much there. So if a game is fun just shut up and play it! LOL
Re:Crysis 3 Now Available !!! IMO it was better than the original, but the problem is you can't mod it. :(

You can mod Warhead just as much as the original.

Negative, they didn't ship it with the .cry files, because otherwise we would have just ported the maps to Crysis 1. (zurginator)

You've gotta remember that you're *supposed* to stay in the tank for 90% of that one, which allowed them to use a lot less detail when it comes to the environment. The grass/small plants are all procedural, and there isn't any real use of entities. C2 had a driving level as well.... and it's almost as big and bland.

It's also worth noting that Tank (actual level name) was cut from the console version.... and doing that in a modern game would have hell to pay.

Edit:
Wouldn't exactly call this Crysis 2.5. Looks awesome.
Definitely has POM, which is more than could be said about C2. Not really a good look at if there is any tessellation, but it looks to me like the vines do indeed have some Phong Tess.
At the very least I'm excited to mess with it in the editor.

Re:Crysis 3 Now Available !!! Go play it again, you'll be surprised by how restricted you really are. Also, for the record, I hated C2 compared to C1.... but maps and detail were not where it fell short.... it was the neutered NanoSuit.

Edit: Jesus the maps in C2 are a lot bigger than I thought.... I'll have to dig one out that's small enough to realistically use.

Edit Edit:
A lot less vertical, and a whole lot more horizontal play than I remember. Got 3 that actually pretty closely resemble the 3 C1 levels I pulled (and yes, there are some HUGE C2 maps.... and they're a PITA to get a screen of)

Battery Park (First level)

Some really wide open areas, and some wide linear areas. Despite the linear areas being very wide, there really isn't much to do, so I made them linear anyways.
Maddison Square

Absolutely HUGE map, I was not expecting that at all. Lots of open areas.
Times Square

Very small map, comparable to Ice when it comes to size and play.
Re:Crysis 3 Now Available !!! (zurginator)

Over all experience of Warhead was much better. Shorter, yes. More linear..... debatable, it really wasn't cut back too much when you go back and look at the levels side-by side again. Some were definitely more linear though.... and that's also what caused the performance increase from C1 (more occluders).

Crysis 2 really wasn't THAT linear, when you consider how hard it is to make something open in a city. You also forget how much of C1 is linear: The entire first level, until sunrise... and then it only branches out because 90% of it is water. It soon thereafter becomes linear again. The second level is extremely linear. The alien ship, and the level after that are linear. The battle ship is linear. The flying level is linear. I don't really remember much other than that though. Maybe I'll go re-install the editor to show you. :P

FC2 made by Crytek would have probably been like FC1... a semi-linear sci-fi fps. :P

Edit: It's all about the illusion of freedom, and Crysis is great at it. I'll edit back later and try and add some C2 examples, but C2 has a lot more vertical play, so it'll be harder to show.

Red is "linear", Blue is "open"
Island (first level):

I don't count the ocean because it's procedural generation, and there isn't jack to do there.
Village (second level):

50% of that blue is also procedural, but meh.
And of course, the performance killing "Ice":

Re:Crysis 3 Now Available !!! It's also worth noting that Crysis 1.5 (Warhead) came out 2 years after Crysis 1, re-used a lot of assets, and was generally a much better game. C3 looks to be the Warhead of Crysis 2, and will probably be pretty good.... though I still refuse to buy anything that uses Origin.

Warhead was already headed down the CoD path. It was almost completely linear, unlike Crysis 1. The campaign was also 3-4 hours shorter. It's a real shame when people call that better. MP improved for sure, but that didn't matter much since hardly anyone played it. Too complicated compared to BF and CoD I guess.

zurginator

1ceTr0n

I'd rather continue to play Far Cry 1 then bother with this crap again from EA and Crytek. FC2 blew such horrid and decaying donkey balls.

FC2 wasn't from EA nor Crytek.... it was Ubisoft.

Yeah, Crytek probably would have ruined FC2 more.... turn it into a linear sci-fi FPS maybe?
Re:Crysis 3 Now Available !!! Crytek is going head-to-head with Unreal right now, and they need to put all the weight they can into marketing the abilities of their engine. I fully expect Crytek to release DX11 features (the latest updates to the engine make it soooooo easy to do) and max the hell out of the PC, especially with "Unreal 4" looming ahead.
Re:Crysis 3 Now Available !!! (realmad37)

Totally agree with you, I love CD Projekt and their awesome attitude, but I wasn't too impressed with Witcher 2 unlike most people, anyways the industry is slowly transitioning to a F2P model, I swear BLR and Tribes Ascend are better than some of the AAA titles I have played in the past couple of years (but I have still yet to convince myself to spend money to unlock things in a F2P game)
Re:Crysis 3 Now Available !!! (Im Hit!)

realmad37

Yeah its basically Publisher wars right now, who can make the most profit, Bethesda is honestly the best dev so far, but the Indie funded scene and kickstarter are making way more money because they are completely free from the Reigns of Publishers, and can completely cator to their fans

This is the main and best reason to why Valve is the best, nothing better than a self publisher with devs that have the schedules of a 5-Year old kid (To say nonexistent and can do whatever they want basically, at least they still stay professional )

P.S. Anyone who hasn't already checked the Valve's Employee handbook should totally do it, basically sums up their whole company

Agreed mostly. Remember Bethesda is a publisher and publisher owned by Zenimax (specifically a subsidiary). Being a publisher, Bethesda does not develop anything per se. They are a collective of publishers like Human Head (well HH used to be under Bethesda but looks like Prey 2 changed all that) Splash Damage was under Bethesda but they are also gone, it seems. Not clear but SD is talking about publishing their own games by erecting a company owned by SD to do just this.

Bethesda Software is a developer in it's own fashion . But they are most known for Elder Scrolls and Fallout exclusively.

I may have to agree with you if you mean Bethesda is the most consisten major publisher/dev out there currently. I can't think of a non Free2Play, non-independent company as consistent as Bethesda. CD Projekt Red is getting there but don't have as many project under their belt as Beth. And I guess they are still relatively independent since their deal with GoG.com is not a deal with a major owner.
