It is an excellent combat simulator from an excellent game developer.

I play it with about 10.5 GB of mods on top of it. I have some shortcuts set up so I can launch it with or without mods as needed. It is the only reason I still keep a Windows partition around. Hopefully within the next few months I will be able to get it to run on Linux with a few updates to WINE. (It runs on Linux/WINE now, but does not detect mouse/keyboard input)

I've already jumped the bandwagon like forrestang suggested. Ever since I have, I really don't see myself buying any other modern warfare FPS outside of the series.

tet5uo

Lol at saying Arma 2 is a replacement for BF3.

Indeed. For those looking to try ArmA 2, keep in mind that the two games are completely different. If you want a BF3 replacement, aka another arcade style modern warfare MP FPS, then you just have Call of Duty and MoH as far as I know. As for BF and mods, EA doesn't care about disappointing the PC community because this is the smaller community. Plus I'm sure they really wanted to get the game out before 2012.
Re:bf3 bull potatoes (neal0790)

Tanks need some help. I fly a jet when im bored with infantry and its a lot easier to destroy any land vehicle now. Used to just focus on killing infantry with my main gun but now i just spend my time hunting down tanks. A round and a half with rocket pods destroy any vehicle no matter how much armor it has. Used to take almost 2 rounds with everyone of them hitting to get a kill. Now there dead before they even get knew what hit them. Ive also noticed ive been doing alot worse with my G36C they did something to it, because my accuracy and damage has gone to crap. But i cant figure out what it exactly is, all i know is i all of a sudden suck with it. lol. The dart glitch sucks now too, everyone is taking advantage of it. The only thing i wanted them to change was the stingers, because there absolutely pointless. The whole reason i unlocked everything for the jet was to get revenge on the helicopters. The game is still fun but they did change alot of things that seemed unnecessary. But it seems like everytime they adjust something, it pisses someone off and then they nerf something else. People just need to release different vehicles/weapons do more damage and have better accuracy. Not every one is the same.
Re:bf3 bull potatoes (ShurikenTenshi)

EVGATech_ZachN

Kanti

I might have to try out arma 2.

Battlefield isn't about mods..... what are you, 12?

1942 had modability built into the game. Desert Combat had a HUGE following with server after server filled. The modded maps were amazing and made El Alamein feel like Berlin. Coral Sea was also awesome fun. Huge maps for PROP PLANES. Now in BF3 we get maps the size of a shoe box and are expected to fly jets inside without issue.

BF3 isn't a bad game, but it sure is a joke compared to BF1942.

I do not see why it is so hard for them to live up to the original when all we are asking for is Battlefield 1942 with DX11 gfx and PhysX. We don't want some amazing new combat system, or some plot twist in the story, just a revised Battlefield 1942 for modern video cards. They could actually leave the setting in WWII and modders would have no problem coming in and releasing battlefield 1992.

I absolutely could not agree more with you there. THREE of you guys in this thread talked about how much you liked the mods, DICE said multiple times BEFORE the game was released that they were not going to offer modding ability when they where bragging about and touting the Frostbite system.... yet all THREE of you purchased the game. And when I say 'care about mods' above, I mean it is important enough to them to effect their purchasing of the game.

The statement made was:

No modding support.

The Battlefield series was great because of the mods available for it, now the Battlefield series as it was is dead. It has been replaced with a dumbed down arcade game for teens.

I was responding to the idea, that the lack of mod support isn't what I think most people consider 'what ruins a BF Game.' Particularly, I don't think too many people will have that on their checklist, as a MUST before they purchased BF3. I'm sure the ability for mods adds a lot of value, for a small % of people that play the game, but I doubt it is a big enough influence to effect their purchasing patterns.
Re:bf3 bull potatoes (Kanti)

OMG lost village! I think that map taught me everything I needed to know when it came to flying a helo in a BF game. Whenever I get asked, "OMG how'd you do that, joystick!?" I replay, "naw brah, WASD."
Re:bf3 bull potatoes (_ZachN)

BFBC2 and BF3 essentially killed the series for me.
Re:bf3 bull potatoes (forrestang)

boredgunner

Newguy1212

why the patches ruined the game and the weapons changed??

Because they listened to the community. It would appear that the community doesn't want any gun to have an advantage over another.

^This is probably true, mainly as mentioned above by Camel, that the whiners are likely the most outspoken and all the rest of us have to cater to their desires unfortunately.
Re:bf3 bull potatoes (Newguy1212)

boredgunner

^ What OMG_A_FURRY and Zach said. The game itself is just too generic and run-and-gun, and poor weapon balance doesn't help. Coop and SP are also last minute add-ons with no effort at all.

Newguy1212

why the patches ruined the game and the weapons changed??

Because they listened to the community. It would appear that the community doesn't want any gun to have an advantage over another.

Wait they changed the weapon system because people complained??
Re:bf3 bull potatoes (loveha)

Game to me is still fun in most aspects, I just wish they would undo two things, the recoil changes, and the armor to the MBT.
