For Metro 2033, just turn off "Advanced DOF" and you should be fine with all other settings on max. At least that's how it is for me, with an i5 760 @ 4.2 GHz, GTX 480, and 1920 x 1080 monitor. That setting is horribly optimized and not impressive anyway - Crysis DX10 DOF is far more realistic and not nearly as demanding.

even my 570 couldn't handle Metro 2033 at 1080p with max settings, that game really is demanding.
Re:Physx Games (dukenuke88)

Not to crush your hopes and dreams but Metro 2033 needs SLI if you want max settings with decent FPS. I could be wrong but past threads I've read seemed to say Metro needs two top end GPUs to max.

+1

OP, I did one full play through of Metro 2033...two GTX 580's in SLI with a slight overclock....1200p resolution

Metro all maxed settings (including 4x MSAA) the game was pretty playable...but it wasn't buttery smooth like I expected....there were times when it dipped into the 30's, because the game is that taxing...or the game just runs like crap...haha who knows? but whatever the case maybe, I'm sure you won't be happy with a 480 + 275 for PHYSX at 1200p

Now just a friendly tip...you can always turn off a few settings in order to drastically improve frame rates...and barely take any loss in the eye candy department....the two main settings are DOF & 4X MSAA...if you turn DOF off and use AAA instead of 4X MSAA, it can be the difference between 25fps and 50fps

So you definitely think there are more performance taxing areas of the game than what was benched in the link I provided?

I'm not exactly sure where that is in the link...there are various parts of the game that is taxing...heck, the whole damn game is taxing!

If you run the in game benchmark, it actually gives you a pretty accurate result of how you're game will perform on "average"....I remember when I had my two 580's, the benchmark gave me a 46 or 47fps...and I would say that is pretty accurate, while playing in game, in real levels

Metro 2033, IMO, it's not a very good game to begin with....sure the graphics are amazing...sure its a great way to test our new hardware....but it doesn't have alot of replay value, and its not exactly fun....its more of a story driven FPS, with incredible graphics....you don't need high frames per second to enjoy the game really....and even with some of the lower graphic settings, the game still looks better than 90% of the other games out there

I think that with the physx card at 1200p I should be able to average 40fps. That works for me, but I am worried about sections of the game that may be more demanding than the portion that was benched if those portions exist.
