Cant always trust the youtube community so thats why I came here.
Re:I just received a broken 8800 Ultra from a friend. Worth Fixing? Or no? (gatorboy13)

Im pretty sure its an overheating issue. Even without having my precision running because it wouldn't detect the card I could easily tell it was too hot for its own good. I touched the heatsink with my finger after a minute of the video card running and it was too hot to touch. To me I feel like the artifacts are due to the overheating. Im gonna try and reapply thermal compound and see if that fixes it first before I go into the Oven trick.
Re:I just received a broken 8800 Ultra from a friend. Worth Fixing? Or no? (bob16314)

Install it and stress test it first to find out exactly what's wrong with it (overheating, artifacting, whatever)..Use EVGA OC Scanner or Unigine Heaven and see what happens..The maximum GPU temp is 105C..They are easy to disassemble, clean and re-TIM, pretty much identicle to this ..EVGA won't try to fix it or do anything for you since you don't have warranty.
Re:I just received a broken 8800 Ultra from a friend. Worth Fixing? Or no? (gatorboy13)

I was looking around after testing the video card I was given and it seems like an awful lot of videos on youtube are actually "Baking" their card in an oven at a certain temp to fix it. Is this a good idea or is it just a Sham? I will post the video for people to see.

Re:I just received a broken 8800 Ultra from a friend. Worth Fixing? Or no? (gatorboy13)

I also do have a set of Thermal paste and still haven't tested it to see what was wrong with the card. I think it may have just been overheating. Maybe I could open it up clean dust out and re-paste it myself?
I just received a broken 8800 Ultra from a friend. Worth Fixing? Or no? (gatorboy13)

I currently run a single 470 Super clocked from EVGA in my PC. I am more than happy with what my computer can do and a friend today didn't feel like going through the hassle of fixing a broken 8800 ultra card that he had. He let me have the card and I was wondering how I should go about fixing it, or if I should even attempt to fix it. Will EVGA let me send it in if I pay them to fix it? I don't have a warrantee on it, as I was not the original owner and I'm not sure they will even attempt to fix it. What do you guys think? Should I scrap my dreams of fixing it and using it for PhysX? Or should I try and fix it to amp up my my current rig?
