Then log back on.
At that pinpoint the fan speed stays at 40% and never changes.

Perhaps it was just a oddity, or maybe a small bug that happens under certain conditions.
Either way, Ive just been exiting precision if logging off, or rebooting and no issues since.

Reviving because this issue IS related to logging off from Windows and then logging back on. It has been an issue for as long as I can remember. Usually, I will catch the issue before my GPU shuts down from getting too hot. Today, that was not the case and my GPU shut down... It would probably save EVGA some RMA costs to get Unwinder to fix this issue...
Re:EVGA Precision AutoFan stuck at 40% (CenturyChild)

I have not tried the fane unlocker, No.
I was under the impression this simply unlocked the fans so they could be set lower and higher than the 40%-85% limit?

Is there more to it such as a more aggresive fan profile though? As far as the fan speeds themselves, Im fine with them at the stock limits, which is why I havent considered it.

--- As far as the card getting stuck at 40% ---
I can not reproduce this everytime but it seems to have something to do with logging off, if Precision is running at the time.

Ive been watching carefully attempting to find when it does it.
2 times its happened, has been after I just Log off. In fact, this is a fresh clean installation of Windows :(

I will try that suggestion anyway, just in case, and then take a look at afterburner.
Re:EVGA Precision AutoFan stuck at 40% (HeavyHemi)

CenturyChild

Oops... updated :)

No, the only monitoring program I have is Precision.
All I really care about is the custom Fan Profiles so the card runs a bit cooler, or I wouldnt even use it since I do not wish to OC the card beyond its factory OC.

Im a bit stumpped whats causing it though. It isnt often, but it does happen it just sticks at 40%. Not even the cards own fan profile seems to work.

You might try MSI Afterburner. It's made by the same author of Precision but seems to have less issues with fan control. You're not the first person to report this. BTW, if you were using Precision with a different GPU it might help to uninstall Precision, delete the Precision folder, then reinstall. Matter of fact it wouldn't hurt to try that anyway.
Re:EVGA Precision AutoFan stuck at 40% (CenturyChild)

 Oops...

And for the most part it works fine,.

But sometimes, it just doesn't do anything.
For example, earlier I had installed one of my games and was setting it up.
When I exit out, my GPU was at 88C, and fan speed was at 40% -- Auto.

Disabling and re-enabling Auto done nothing. The fan speed was just stuck at 40%.

I rebooted the system, started Precision and it kicked in again.

When this happened the first time, I was wondering if it was because I had Precision set to Start w/Windows and Start Minimized. (Perhaps had to be run as Admin or something)
But that apparently wasn't the case.

So Im curious, if this is something thats a know issue, and how to fix it. Granted it doesnt happen all the time, but has me a bit worried.
Thanks.

Are you running any other monitoring program like AIDA64, Hardware monitor etc etc?

Edit...I know what it is...you still have that Sapphire card listed in your sig the GTX is telling you something....J/K
EVGA Precision AutoFan stuck at 40% (CenturyChild)

I have a small issue with my new GTX 570SC and am unsure exactly where the problem lies.

I got my new card, and just done a clean installation of Windows.
I did not use anything off the CD that came with it.
I just downloaded the drivers from Nvidias site, and grabbed Precision 2.0.3

I enabled Software Auto Fan controller, and set a fan profile I'm comfortable with.
