04/27/2009 3:00:23 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : Will the 3d glasses provide as much eyestrain as the other 3d glasses that are currently on the market? A : 3D Vision has incredibly low eye strain for a few reasons - high 60Hz refresh, full resolution (not interleaved), and drivers are well tuned for each profiled game

04/27/2009 3:01:55 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Blazen22: Is there any support for Windows7, or will this product be supported for Windows7? A : Windows 7 will definitely be supported with this product. We are already testing beta drivers now and will be relesaed Windows 7 drivers this summer.

04/27/2009 3:02:10 PM NVIDIA_Philip   Q : Blazen22: Will there be any features or add-ons to the 3d glasses supporting people like me who wear prescription glasses, but do not have contacts? Or is this product strictly for those who are not already wearing prescription glasses or own contacts. A : Actually, we designed 3D Vision glasses to fit OVER existing prescription glasses. There should not be any issues with those wearing contact lenses.

04/27/2009 3:02:52 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Disc0Fever: Can the 3D mode be turned off with the video card's control panel, and therefore would I be able to play in normal 2D for older games A : Yes. You can control it from the Driver control panel or you can click the button on the front of the emitter.

04/27/2009 3:04:05 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Blazen22: Say my friend owns a pair of these shutter glasses, and he wants to come over and play some l4d. Is it possible for him to bring his glasses and hook them up to my emitter, so we can both wear our 3d glasses and enjoy 3d gaming together? A : Yes, the IR emitter can connect to as many glasses that can be in a room.

04/27/2009 3:05:40 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Disc0Fever: The Nvidia 3D Vision documents say that stereoscopic 3D effects work only with full-screen DirectX applications. Does it mean that they don't work with OpenGL based games? A : Currently our driver only supports DirectX games. OpenGL will be supported in a future driver update. We havent disclosed a launch date yet for this driver.

04/27/2009 3:05:59 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : Blazen22: When you are wearing the 3d glasses, does it add depth putting you in the monitor or does the game jump out at you putting the game around your viewing perspective, such as the boomers bile in l4d flying by your head. A : Depends on the game - but generally the monitor basically opens up, showing the game world behind... Some games, like WOW Lich King expansion pack, does some cool out of screen effects... Watch for more of this in the future.. Bile just drips down the screen at screen depth.

04/27/2009 3:07:11 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : Disc0Fever: The Nvidia 3D Vision documents say that stereoscopic 3D effects work only with full-screen DirectX applications. Does it mean that they don't work with OpenGL based games? A : Correct - doesn't work w/ OGL as of today.

04/27/2009 3:08:44 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : Rayman2170: Is it possible to have other things in 3d besides games? example Windows UserInterface. A : We are working on windowed mode Stereo 3D, like more consumer-based interfaces - but have not released anything yet..

04/27/2009 3:08:49 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Blazen22: Will there be any movies that will support 3d vision or is it going to be only video games from now on? A : We currently do support some standard 3D movie formats. We are working with the community to support 3D movies from Hollywood.

04/27/2009 3:09:53 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Blazen22: Will there be DX11 compatibility in the long run? A : 3D Vision is based upon standard NVIDIA graphics driver model so we can support virtually any new feature on our graphics card.

04/27/2009 3:09:55 PM NVIDIA_Philip   Q : Morpheusdead: Ok so my question is when will a driver be released that will allow for 60hz displays to be used since 30fps should be at lest minimal for this to work? A : 3D Vision uses 60 Hz per eye - hence the 120 Hz model. If we used 60Hz (in total, for both eyes), it would create a....sickening experience. We used human testing (thanks Jacob) to confirm this theory.

04/27/2009 3:10:00 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : Morpheusdead: Ok so my question is when will a driver be released that will allow for 60hz displays to be used since 30fps should be at lest minimal for this to work? A : We disabled any 30fps @ 60Hz - because the flicker seen at 60Hz is a REALLY bad experience. Trust me. 60Hz per eye (120Hz) is the best possible experience.

04/27/2009 3:10:39 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Blazen22: The shutter glasses have up to a 20 foot radius, is this on a 2.4 GHz connection to the IR Emitter or perhaps Bluetooth? A : We use a high power IR emitter to connect to glasses. IR allows us to operate in a low power mode and achieve a long battery life.

04/27/2009 3:11:32 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : DigitalBob: In 3Dworld Magazine this month there has been a great article on producing stereoscopic content. It's aimed at producing static rendered content or animations (which I understand should display in the NvidiaSteroplayer). A : Not sure what the question is - but yes, a lot of 3d content is playable via the stereo video player and static stereo photos.

04/27/2009 3:11:38 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : voklskier4452: How much focus do you have on making older games compatible vs. making newer ones compatible with 3d vision? A : We focus a lot of time today on making sure newer games work. We have an existing games library already built up. The reason we focus on new games is that we can work with the developer to get fixes into new games.

04/27/2009 3:13:01 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : Devo85x: Will 3D be pushed as a standard to (hopefully) be supported in most games? A : 3D is actually built right into 95% of games today, so yes - it will/is a standard. We are just bringing out the true 3D experience w/ 3D Vision - kind of like unlocking the 3d inherent in games..

04/27/2009 3:13:04 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : BioHazardSperm: Understandably starting with a smaller size makes sense ,when will we see a full gamer LCD 1920x1200 .Or is this a software issue limiting the screen size? A : We are currently working with all major LCD manufacturers to build larger displays. Unfortunately we cannot disclose launch plans since they are NDA, but we hear you loud and clear.

04/27/2009 3:13:53 PM NVIDIA_Philip   Q : Skydive: How much extra work does 3D Vision create for your GPU? Would an SLI configuration be recommended to offset the extra work? A : the PC has to render twice as many frames as a non-3D setup, so the GPU has that much more work to do. An SLI setup would greatly improve your 3D vision experience. Currently 3 way and Quad SLI support is not available, but we are working toward enabling all methods of SLI.

04/27/2009 3:14:56 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Drazhar: My first question is: What made NVIDIA decide that now was the time for 3D Vision, what was the technological breakthrough that made it so feasible? A : There was a perfect storm of 3D GPU horsepower and the natural trend in the monitor business was to move to faster response time and refresh rate.

04/27/2009 3:15:16 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Disc0Fever: Some documentations on the internet claim that IR Emitter synchronizes glasses with refresh rate, while some other documents claim that it synchronizes glasses with frame rate. Which one is correct? A : Im not sure I understsand the quesiton.

04/27/2009 3:16:12 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : homegrown: will a display supporting more than 120Hz have any more or less 3d effect? A : No not really. Generally more is better w/ refresh rate. But for 3D Vision 120Hz is crucial to get 60hz (no flicker) per eye. Today, LCD mfgrs are focused on 120hz. I don't see higher rates in the next few quarters..

04/27/2009 3:17:09 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : bomberboysk: What way does the nvdia 3d glasses work that is superior to existing technologies? A : There are a few reasons for this. First, our glasses have a higher contrast ratio than other glasses on the market.Second, the new 120 HZ lcd monitors virtually elinimate ghosting in the display.

04/27/2009 3:17:29 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : Disc0Fever: Will any 120hrz LCD tv work? Nvidia only lists a few compatible monitors, but in fact there are hundreds of 120hrz lcd's on the market A : Right, the key is that "Pure120Hz" LCDs - the ones that are 3D Vision Ready - not only refresh the panel at 120Hz but also accept 120fps video signal. That's what sets 3d vision ready displays apart... So the hundreds of HDTVs out there won't work - they are limited to 60Hz input.

04/27/2009 3:17:32 PM NVIDIA_Philip   Q : bomberboysk: What kind of batteries do the glasses themselves require or are they rechargeable? A : 3D Glasses are rechargable with a USB cord - a 1 hour charge time yields about 40 hours of use.

04/27/2009 3:18:18 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : fo0b4er: What needs to be done on the game developer's side for this to work? A : 3D Vision can automatically convert most games to simply work in 3D. We definitely work with game developers to optimize their games for stereocopic 3D and we have a lot of game developers doing that now. Here is a link: http://www.nvidia.com/object/io_1236082877315.html

04/27/2009 3:18:38 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : Devo85x: Will Nvidia push 120hz as the new standard for monitors? A : Simple answer: yes, 120Hz is amazing for gaming overall.. Take an EVGA GTS250, let it loose at 120fps and motion blur (in 2D) is significantly reduced.

04/27/2009 3:18:50 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Rayman2170: Does it involve much calibration or does it work outa the box? A : Out of the box, we design the glasses to work with over 300 games. We guide the user through a simple setup wizard that ensures proper support./

04/27/2009 3:19:08 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : someone972: Do the drivers also support anaglyph modes, or is it just the 120 fps flip flop? A : Yes, our driver does support anaglyph.

04/27/2009 3:19:12 PM NVIDIA_Philip   Q : PipChaos: How do the 3D glasses fit over regular eyeglasses? They don't look all that large. Are they adjustable? A : This question was answered earlier in the chat. 3D vision was designed to work with existing eyeglasses, and comes with different sized nose pads to best fit your face/glasses.

04/27/2009 3:19:52 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Devo85x: Will 3D Vision support applications other than games in the near future or is it totally the decision of the developer of the software/game? A : We are currently working to expand 3D Vision support beyond just games. We cannot disclose any launch dates for future software updates though.

04/27/2009 3:20:12 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Fyrezerk: Will the PhysX abilities of NVidia graphics cards be used in more games to come? A : Yes, 3D Vision and PhysX work really well together.

04/27/2009 3:20:52 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : waynecollins: Does the 3D Effect work at any range or is there a sweet spot ? A : We recommend at least 2 feet away from a desktop LCD to achieve the maximum depth.

04/27/2009 3:21:13 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : Skydive: How much extra work does 3D Vision create for your GPU? Would an SLI configuration be recommended to offset the extra work? A : the card needs to basically render two frames (left/right eye view) compared to standard gaming. So you'd think there is a 2x perf hit - but because we own the graphics drivers from top to bottom of the stack, we do some tricky optimizations to limit the perf hit. This is a great question, and one big reason why 3D Vision is the best solution out there..

04/27/2009 3:21:26 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : waynecollins: Is there a capability to add a second pair of glasses ? A : Yes, you can add as many glasses to your system!

04/27/2009 3:22:57 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : slugbug: Any dangers for people who have Epilepsy and are prone to seizures? A : We recommend that users that have history with these illnesses do not use 3D Vision glasses.

04/27/2009 3:23:03 PM NVIDIA_Philip   Q : strudinox: Since the high demand for data, in order to use the 3D package, are two DVI ports required? A : No - it's a standard dual link DVI interface.

04/27/2009 3:23:16 PM EVGA_Marketing   Skydive, please email me your shirt size and you have won an EVGA Folding shirt

04/27/2009 3:23:31 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Mayco1: I've played Left 4 Dead using the NVIDIA stereoscopic drivers on a "normal" screen using an unoffical modification to the game, and sometimes the game seemed discoloured (e.g: flames were red/green/blue). Is this different with the special software, glasses and 100 Hz monitor? A : I'm not sure I understand the question. Were you in 3D mode?

04/27/2009 3:23:33 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : fo0b4er: What needs to be done on the game developer's side for this to work? A : Basically nothing. Games are already built in 3d worlds, we just unlock it. Some developers will start to bring things out of the screen. Also some HUDs need to be rendered at the right depth.

04/27/2009 3:24:10 PM EVGA_Marketing   my email is joe@evga.com for those that do not know

04/27/2009 3:24:14 PM NVIDIA_Philip   Q : kekleon64: I believe an 8 series or later card is required to use 3D, but how well would the older cards in that series hold up against game in 3D, say WoW or CoD4? A : 3D Vision works with GeForce 8800GT and higher graphics cards.

04/27/2009 3:24:40 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : someone972: Do the drivers also support anaglyph modes, or is it just the 120 fps flip flop? A : We already support anaglyph modes in our drivers. The 120fps flip is for 3D VIsion.

04/27/2009 3:24:50 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : jll544: Are there any plans to bring 3D feature movies (like those shown in IMAX) to 3D Vision? A : we are currently engaging hollywood content providers to bring 3D movie content to the PC. Unfortunately we do not have an announcement date.

04/27/2009 3:25:01 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : bomberboysk: What kind of batteries do the glasses themselves require or are they rechargeable? A : Rechargeable - 2hrs of charge is 40hrs of continuous gaming.

04/27/2009 3:25:50 PM NVIDIA_Philip   Q : modulus255: Do either of you have a favorite game to play with the 3D vision? A : Left 4 Dead

04/27/2009 3:26:08 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : DigitalBob In 3Dworld Magazine this month there has been a great article on producing stereoscopic content. It's aimed at producing static rendered content or animations (which I understand should display in the NvidiaSteroplayer). It doesn't however discuss how to view self made content live directly for the 3dvision system. Is there a recommended 3D engine that will allow us to show our work interactively in all it's 3d glory? Having the ability to access positive z-depth placement for pop-out would be great. I have been working with googles o3d (directx enabled 3d plug-in) for web3D in Full screen browser modes - It would be very exciting if I can produce content that will work on the web with 3Dvision. A : Hi Digital Bob. Our driver model works with existing game engines to automatically in 3D. I would recommend that you start with a modeling packaging like 3ds max or maya that has native 3D OpenGL support in it to start.

04/27/2009 3:26:21 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : modulus255: Do either of you have a favorite game to play with the 3D vision? A : Of course, Burnout Paradise, Guitar Hero 3, and Left 4 Dead.

04/27/2009 3:26:35 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : modulus255: Do either of you have a favorite game to play with the 3D vision? A : Burnout Paradise is sweet, L4D

04/27/2009 3:27:31 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : lnchang: Any chance to use CUDA to encode regular movie files into 3d and couple with the glasses? A : We are investigating that possibility. Unfortunately its difficult to virtualize the 3D data in a movie and show it in 3D. There usually is some offline conversion that needs to take place which is a manual step.

04/27/2009 3:28:01 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : fo0b4er: Are there going to be different kinds/shapes of glasses? Like if you want a different color or look? A : What color do you want?

04/27/2009 3:28:13 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : ScottMajor: Can you use the glasses while charging? A : Yes, works fine. I do it all the time!

04/27/2009 3:28:31 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : fo0b4er: How does the GeForce 3d vision work? what is the technology? is it polarization and alternate frames? A : 3D Vision is pageflip stereo, so its alternative frames.

04/27/2009 3:28:44 PM EVGATech_JacobF   Q : fo0b4er What GPUs are supported? Same as CUDA and PhysX? A : 8800GT and above.

04/27/2009 3:28:47 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : fo0b4er: Is there any way that I can try this without actually buying it? Are you putting on demos anywhere? A : We are launching a pretty comprehensive retail Test Drive center program in the coming months. For now, check out MicroCenter - there will be more. Check back www.nvidia.com/get3d under retail centers..

04/27/2009 3:28:56 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : fo0b4er What GPUs are supported? Same as CUDA and PhysX? A : http://www.nvidia.com/object/GeForce_3D_Vision_Requirements.html

04/27/2009 3:29:00 PM EVGA_Marketing   Disc0Fever: Please send me your shirt size, you have won a free EVGA Folding Shirt

04/27/2009 3:29:13 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : ScottMajor: Can you use the glasses while charging? A : yes- play away...

04/27/2009 3:30:16 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : waynecollins: Will the glasses work only for games specifically designed for them or is it possible to play older games as well in 3D ? A : We support older titles as well as new ones. We have a full list of games here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/GeForce_3D_Vision_3D_Games.html

04/27/2009 3:30:42 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : studio3d: When I looked, I only saw bundles available. Can one buy emitters/glasses separately from monitor? A : We will be offering a glasses only SKU in the near future so you can add other pairs of glasses to your system.

04/27/2009 3:30:42 PM EVGA_Marketing   fo0b4er - Please email me your shirt size, you have won an EVGA Folding shirt. joe@evga.com

04/27/2009 3:31:15 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : SCAVENGER1: will they support xp and vista 32bit and 64bit as well as thw win7 32bit and 64bit when it come in? A : Currently we support Windows Vista only. We will be releasing Windows 7 support in the future (soon)!

04/27/2009 3:32:00 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : strudinox: If someone had a medical condition which allowed them to only see out of just one eye, would they be able to use this product as well? A : Unfortunately no since stereoscopic 3D requires you to have two eyes.

04/27/2009 3:32:28 PM joshjtd   Are there any stores that are currently demoing the vision setup

04/27/2009 3:32:34 PM NVIDIA_Philip   Q : Devo85x: Will the glasses work with multiple monitors? A : Multi monitor is supported, but the 3D effect will only work on one monitor at a time.

04/27/2009 3:33:09 PM EVGA_Marketing   Josh, there are demo units at Microcenter stores. check with your local store.

04/27/2009 3:33:11 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : wer4geeks: WHy did you guys decide to put the effort into reviving this tech? A : Because its really cool! What was holding it back was there were limitations in displays that were holding back a quality experience.

04/27/2009 3:34:16 PM EVGA_Marketing   Devo85x - Send me your shirt size, you have won an EVGA Folding shirt

04/27/2009 3:34:23 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : babyballa: Since the glasses needs battery to power it, will there be some sort on a indicator to show how much charge you have left? A : Yes, our glasses have light codes that let you know when your battery is getting low or has run out of charge.

04/27/2009 3:34:57 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : fo0b4er: What does this add really when games are already 3D? A : You get to actually see it in 3D - instead of your eyes focusing on the flat 2D screen, your eyes focus beyond the screen surface or see something fly out at you. Basically we unlock the 3d and allow you to experience it naturally.

04/27/2009 3:35:07 PM EVGA_Marketing   SCAVENGER1 - send me your shirt size, you have won a EVGA Folding Shirt

04/27/2009 3:42:06 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : miska_man: Would being color blind or color blind in patterns affect the "3D seeing" capabilities of someone's eyes? A : No - as long as you see out of both eyes you are good to go. Only color perception will be affected...

04/27/2009 3:42:23 PM EVGA_Marketing   this will not hurt anyones chance to win

04/27/2009 3:42:35 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Question: Davabled How does 3DVision rate in the Wife Approval Factor? A : Excellent! The key is to find a game that she would like and show it to her. In my case it was Left 4 Dead since my wife loves zombie movies.

04/27/2009 3:42:53 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : sam2993: How compatible with ATI is 3D vision? My laptop is ATI based, and before buying this product, I'd like to know if it will work with both of my computers A : Unfortunately 3D Vision only works with GeForce GPUs.

04/27/2009 3:43:43 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : jbwhit41: Do the glasses auto reconnect to the receiver during gameplay if I move too far away from it, or do I have to restart the game? A : Yes. Our glasses are based on IR. They will automatically shut off after 10 mins of inactivity. So as long as you get back in range soon, you are good!

04/27/2009 3:46:21 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : Ultra9k: Being IR, will strong sunlight affect the connectivity? A : No, it requires certain pulsed codes of IR - so sunlight doesn't affect it..

04/27/2009 3:47:33 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : Kingkoopa88: KingKoopa, How long has 3DVision been in development? A : We've been working on it for a few years. Driver development has been going on for over 10 years, and 3D Vision itself has been in development for over 3 years.

04/27/2009 3:47:38 PM EVGATech_JacobF   Q : Yin~Yang: Will an 9800GTX+ work with 3D Vision? A : Yes, it will work with a 9800GTX+

04/27/2009 3:48:02 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : boss_cuco: I really love to play pro evolution soccer with my brother. How will i do that with these glasses? Do i need two pairs? Or can i play with the glasses on with my brother looking at the "normal" monitor? A : if two people are looking at the same screen, you will need two sets of glasses.

04/27/2009 3:48:16 PM EVGA_Marketing   Ultra9k: please send me your shirt size, you have won an EVGA Folding Shirt

04/27/2009 3:48:18 PM NVIDIA_Philip   Q : Yin~Yang: Will an 9800GTX+ work with 3D Vision? A : this was answered earlier - 3D Vision will work with a GeForce 9800 GT and higher - this includes the 9800 GTX+

04/27/2009 3:48:45 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : jowens203: From what you guys have seen/tested, how durable are the glasses? A : Extremely strong. My favorite demo is to take them, throw them against the wall and then show that they still work.

04/27/2009 3:49:12 PM NVIDIA_Adam   Q : coolgamer512: How does 3D vision look better than red/blue 3D glasses or iZ3D's 3D monitor? A : The way we look at it, we rate quality 3D on color, resolution, game support, GPU performance hit. 3D Vision rates extremely high on all counts. Full resolution (unlike some other passive solutions), full color (unlike anaglyph), 350+ games work great, and minimal perf hit...

04/27/2009 3:49:43 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : fo0b4er: Say I get tired of the 3D aspect, and I just want to play in the normal way without the glasses. When I take them off will I have to completely restart the game and/or go into the driver configuration menu? That could be a pain... A : Its actually very easy to turn off 3D. All you need to do is push the button on the IR emitter to turn off the 3D mode.

04/27/2009 3:50:05 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : strudinox: If I end up getting one of these, would I be kissing my social life goodbye? A : Not at all.

04/27/2009 3:50:22 PM EVGA_Marketing   coolgamer512: Please send me your shirt size, you have won an EVGA folding Shirt

04/27/2009 3:50:42 PM EVGAWeb_ShaneD   Joe's email address is jdarwin@evga.com since he's not including that.

04/27/2009 3:50:52 PM NVIDIA_Andrew   Q : fo0b4er: Are these glasses based on an existing technology? Like something you owned or purchased? Or did you design the whole system from scratch? A : Pageflip stereo is a well know technique, but our product is a brand new technology we developed from the ground up.
