Given it's a pay-to-play game, in the style of an MMO (kinda), is there even going to be an option for 'dedicated servers' outside of the company?

Have you played the game? It is a F2P game. Everything in the game (with the exception of skins) is unlockable with experience from playing the game.

Once the game moves from Open Beta to Full Release, they have stated that they will have dedicated servers.

The sole reason why I loved my Voodoo card and OpenGL.

Do they still have the command window with the viewpoint of the players ?

It's a unique FPS that reminds me of Halo and TF2. I think having a server or two for this would be great on release, depending on how popular it will be at that point.

I think everyone will be forced to play on centralized servers ran by the publisher.

I really hope EVGA does have a tribes server. Tribes has been in my life since i was 10 years old, love that game and i just cant get enough Ascend! Its going to be a great E-Sports game, just watch i know its gunna be huge!

I don't think EVGA will link to servers not provided by them on evga gaming site, you can PM Rob and ask if you want.

So, they just released "testing" custom servers they control to demonstrate some of the possibilities. From what I have read, the servers are "rented" from Hi-Rez. This mean that although you will not have "complete" freedom of customization (since the customization tools will be provided by hi-rez), xp will still be earned on these servers. It is a fantastic idea, especially if they virtualize the servers. Right now I am waiting on pricing....

I read about that awhile back, didn't bother posting about it due to "centralized servers" and having to use in-game gold. I doubt they have servers at every major data-center to make sure everyone can find a server with lowest ping posible. They probably only have west coast and east coast servers being hosted on old hardware to cut cost.
