Opinion on WC Parts and North/south bridge cooling questions Friday, March 30, 2012 2:34 PM (permalink)
Hello everyone,

I am currently looking to start Watercooling my E768 FTW3 board. I have currently picked out a radiator and cpu block that I feel will do the job nicely. But sadly I have been having trouble finding a good pump, reservoir, Chipset block. I run my rig in a HAF 932 case with multiple open bays encase I decided to get a single or dual bay reservoir.

The current parts I have picked out are a.
Black Ice GT Xtreme 420 Radiator - Black

and
EK Supreme HF Universal CPU Liquid Cooling Block

If anyone has an comments, concerns are good all around info about these parts I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks and have a wonderful day.

All the problems of the world could be settled easily if men were only willing to think. The trouble is that men very often resort to all sorts of devices in order not to think, because thinking is such hard work.

Since the memory controller has finally been moved off the NB for both AMD *and* Intel, now, and what was once the 'FSB' is basically pointless to adjust...

...is there really any value in watercooling the NB and SB anymore?

Honest question - I've seen folks doing it, I am just not quite sure why?

The ICH (or south bridge) is the interface that controls the pic-e bus. Over clocking your video cards is helped when this voltage is increased, my be the difference in a stable and unstable over clock

Huh - really?  Overclocking the video card, itself, not the clock on the PCI-E bus?  Is that...what, the GPU?  ...or vRam?  Or both?

(I guess the wall I always run into with video card overclocks is on the card cooling, itself, but I guess if you were already putting the GPU underwater, too...)

I did a bad job of explaining myself.

Check out this link, it will help you better understand what I was trying to say but couldnt. It will explain what each, NB and SB voltages, could control and provide voltage for.

Watercooling motherboard chipsets is mainly for aesthetics, as they don't get overly hot nowadays. The extra cooling will help for sure, but it's still an aesthetic preference.

The MCP655 and MPC355 or the DDC Storm, whatever Laing decides to call it, are the most popular pumps on the market. Reservoir doesn't really matter, pick one that fits in your case the easiest. EK makes waterblocks for motherboards.
