Why doesn't my Razer Lachesis track mousepads?!?

My first gaming mouse was the razer lachesis, I've had it for about 2 years, Since day one it's been having trouble tracking mousepads, All it does is track the back of a notebook or cardboard, that's it. That's how I've been doing it, But when I organize my desk I like having the mousepad on it so it looks cleaner... What could it be? I bought a mamba not long ago and didn't bother to use it, Now I'm using it and it's tracking smooth as heck with my razer vespula; I'm going to remove the lachesis, But would like to know if anyone had problems with them as well....

Depends on the pad. I live for Icemats, and that glossy surface, the Lachesis just couldn't do anything with. That particular laser + sensor = fail on reflective surfaces. Heavily textured pads it did just fine on, though. Still, I couldn't find any pads like that which I could live with, so I switched over to a Deathadder. The IR sensor does a million times better than the laser on anything like a glossy surface, so it rocks on the Icemat. I'm not as much a fan of the shape, but...eh. It's still better than the Logitech mice, but it's no Boomslang. Anyway - outside of the sensor issue, of course, the Lachesis also had some seriously flakey firmware here and there...updating to a different firmware on it could help volumes (although, again, if you are using a glossy/smooth/reflective pad of any kind...just no helping it). (Man, I miss the Boomslang 2007 CE, though. Best gift my wife ever got me, that mouse was fine. )

All the problems of the world could be settled easily if men were only willing to think. The trouble is that men very often resort to all sorts of devices in order not to think, because thinking is such hard work. -Thomas J. Watson

Shinny or clear mouse pads will give a lot of laser mouses trouble. The only real way to fix it is to get a different mouse pad or a mouse that's known to track better. My little budget OCZ Equalizer Will track on anything. It has dual lasers and 2500DPI, some users even say it tracks on glass. Dual laser engine forenhanced tracking on a wider range of surfaces http://www.ocztechnology....aser-gaming-mouse.html They just dont make them like they use to huh? In fact they discontinued my mouse a long time ago. And its still doing amazing.
